Eleonora Bassi
Night Rain
Bio: Eleonora Bassi is an Italian poet.
She has been educated in classical studies, in law, and philosophy.
Her collection of poems Gemmatura (2025) has been awarded with the "Liana De Luca Opera Prima Book Prize".
She conceives poetry as a language for freedom, in its many and varied meanings, and believes that the arts must complement and integrate each other to enhance human understanding of the world and of the self. She loves collaborating with artists from different fields.
Her poetic language combines classical elements from rhetorics with daily words and synesthetic constructions. As result, her poetry is evocative and provocative rather than descriptive. Images are often metaphors for feelings, emotions, and ideas.
Her poetry collections (Gemmatura and Bipedi implumi) span from intimate to ethical and civic subjects; and her passion for antique Greek culture and pictorial art resonates in her work, combined with a constant dialogue with naturalistic elements.
As a philosopher and a law expert she works for international academic institutions and scientific publishers.
She is based in Turin, Italy.

Statement: Since the first time I watched it, I loved this video by Jim Vecchi. His photographic gaze imposes a suspension in the raining metropolitan heure bleue. The density of the blue, the constant calm of the rain, the slowness of the cars on the wet road, all enhance this suspension. A suspension that can move thoughts and feelings, an active and silently productive suspension. And I felt my heart grateful for this gift.
In composing a poem for this video, however, I didn't seek any description of my thoughts and feelings. I let the images and music rest within me. I gave them time for my language to be added to theirs. I hoped they would express the same harmony and intrinsic poetry.
And I found myself plunged in a blue metaphor. A metaphor in which solitude and hope can dialogue with dreams and memories in a warm and melancholic journey through self-discovery and friendship; a metaphor of peaceful sharing of our human and inner individuality.
